Bedford Open Door will see any young person between the ages of 13 and 25 in emotional difficulty, who lives in Bedford and surrounding area. This may be through self referral, or signposting by professionals, or other voluntary sector workers.
Counselling takes place in the privacy of a small counselling room, and the atmosphere is welcoming and informal. Appointments are weekly and each session lasts for 50 minutes. At
an initial exploratory session in which all issues are talked about, a way ahead will be the main
focus. Sometimes the single meeting is enough, but sometimes meeting with a counsellor for
some more sessions may be useful. In that case, our clients will be allocated to meet with for
ongoing counselling.
The service is confidential unless there is a serious risk to a client or someone around
them. We always endeavour to discuss risks and act with the consent of our clients, but
our prime focus is the safety and well being ot the young people with whom we work.
Counselling at Bedford Open Door is free.
Clients can speak with a receptionist on the phone during normal opening hours. Outside these times a message can be left on the answer phone.
